Broken Pieces or Peace?
Every time I try my best, but if I fall short and fail that test,
I lose a little piece of me.
I thought this was my one true love,
But instead, I got a dud,
And I lose a little piece of me.
I played fair and did my work, but the one who succeeded
And received praise was truly a jerk,
Causing me to lose another little piece of me.
I thought I had a good job coming my way, with more honor and pay,
But they lied, the “it” they tried,
And I still find myself losing a peace in me.
Here comes the outside world, with its “did you hear?” and “can you believe?”,
And don’t even get me started on the audacity,
Another little piece breaks, another little peace that was me.
Now I’m standing here, still, and I bet you are tripping,
Shit, I look broken, don’t I?
But I’m not,
Those broken pieces of my peace make me whole.
They are the reminders that I am unique and put together
In the most beautiful divine way, piece by piece,
Lesson by lesson, moment by moment.
Every disappointment, every discernment,
Every “why not me?”Every damn “where’s my peace?”,
Think to yourself, “I am the peace in me.”

A struggle with fear taking control.
In the dark night,
beauty is lost,
and pain grows,
